What are Personal Expense Categories and how do I create/tag my expenses to them?

In contrast to business expense categories, personal expense categories help you keep track of your expenses to see where you’re spending your money on non-business activities. With extensive default categories, the ability to create custom categories, and detailed personal reports, makes it easy to track and manage your personal spending!

Create Custom Personal Expense Categories

When you tag an Expense as Personal, you'll be able to select a Personal Expense category. There are many default categories to choose from, but you can also create your own custom ones.

Follow the steps below to create a Custom Personal Expenses Category:

On the Mobile App

  1. Go to the Expenses tab

  2. Tap the gear icon

  3. Tap ‘Personal Categories’

  4. Tap the '+' icon in the top right corner

  5. Enter the Category Name, and select the Parent Category it will be organized under

  6. Tap 'Save'

On the Web App

  1. Click the gear icon in the top right corner

  2. Select ‘Personal Categories’

  3. Select '+ Add' button in the top right corner

  4. Enter the Category Name, and select the Parent Category it will organized under

  5. Click 'Save'

Tag an Expense to a Personal Expense Category

  1. Navigate to the Expenses Dashboard (Free & Premium) or Transactions Dashboard (Pro)

  2. Select the transaction you want

  3. Change the tag to 'Personal'

  4. Tap the Category field to select your personal expense category

  5. Click 'Save'
